The 4th collaborative call between Brazil and the European Union was officially announcend on the 20th of September in Brasilia during the Workshop on Coordinated Calls BR-UE on ICT. The goal of the meeting was to support and promote research and development joint projects related to Internet of Things, 5G and Cloud Computing, thanks to the consortium composed by Brazilian, European and other foreign institutions & enterprises. The event took place during the ICTWeek 2016, a partnership between the Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia, Inovação e Comunicação (MCTIC – Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communication) and the European Commission, from the sectoral dialogues framework.
During the first day, the Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa (RNP – Brazil's National Education and Research Network) held a workshop, not only to showcase the preliminary results from projects funded by previous collaborative calls, but also to provide useful information to all entrepreneurs and researchers interested in participating in the 4th BR-EU collaborative call. During 2015, five projects focused on cloud computing and high performance computing benefited from a €7 million allocated funding.
The workshop agenda included a dedicated session for an interactive discussion for all candidates interested in submitting proposals. Researchers and representatives coming from pirvate companies have pitched their proposals, highlighting project goals, with the goal of finding partners to join their initiatives.
Wanderson Paim, RNP project coordinator, stressed that this call is a step further to consolidate the partnership between Brazil and EU in the ICT sector. “International Cooperation is highly beneficial, since it promotes the creation of new partnerships and information exchange between researchers and industry, both interested in ICT development. Results have been adopted, which makes us believe that we are on the right track".
